Bai Lu has started work on a new drama, marking her first project since leaving the agency she spent a decade with. The drama, adapted from the novel The Last Blossom (开到荼蘼) by Yi Shu, is regarded as a project that marks her departure from the costume dramas that have defined much of her career. Directed by Li Muge, the series is set in the 1990s and follows Wang Yunna, a woman who is betrayed, imprisoned, and later transformed into a woman seeking revenge.
Bai Lu is credited under her birth name, Bai Mengyan, leading the drama alongside Hong Kong actress Samantha Ko and Chang Huasen. Peng Guanying, whose character has a major impact on the heroine’s life, is listed as a special star, even though his character is crucial to the story. Maggie Huang Mengying is also part of the cast.
Filming officially started in Foshan on July 24, 2026. Bai Lu will undergo a major transformation, from an innocent young woman with long black hair to a more calculating, composed, and emotionally detached woman with short hair in the revenge arc. However, fans expressed dissatisfaction with Wang Yunna’s wig and clothing shown in behind-the-scenes images and Kai Dao Tu Mi have been demanding changes. Nevertheless, the short hair seems to be an unavoidable part of the role, as it is part of the plot, though production has reportedly agreed to adjust the styling.
In Kai Dao Tu Mi, the story follows Wang Yunna, who is haunted by a past relationship. Seven years later, she returns to her parents and meets Zuo Wensi, a up-and-coming star in the fashion world. The two go on to become engaged, but she soon learns that Zuo Wensi’s brother-in-law is her (former lover|ex-lover|previous lover}, Teng Haiqi. Apparently, the original novel blends romance with suspense, melodrama, and tragedy, with a murder also playing a role in the plot.
